Last week, RMIT University hosted a grand final of a different kind, as some of the University's most talented singers competed for top prize in RMIT Idol.
The annual event, open to all RMIT students, attracts a large number of entries and a big lunchtime crowd to each of the three heats at the City campus cafeteria.
The final, held at RMIT Kaleide Theatre, was a fun night out, with a packed audience providing vocal support.
Nicole Kapiniaris and Fabian Claveria came out on top among 14 contestants, who each belted out renditions of popular numbers ranging in style from hard rock to jazz to popular show tunes.
Ms Kapiniaris got the audience clapping in time during her engaging rendition of Fernando by ABBA, and Mr Claveria had the crowd going wild with his cover of Robbie Williams' Rock DJ.
They both received $1,000 and will sing at RMIT Graduation in front of 30,000 people in December.
The six runners-up were Lucy Wilson, Sun Jin, Chigusa Arihara, Tristan Beale, Jack Johnston and Calvin Fong.
Each received $200 and will also sing at the graduation ceremony.
The judges were Chrissie Robinson, an experienced chorister; Lynn Ellis, the artistic director of Performing Arts at RMIT Union; and Claire Furlong, the musical director of RMIT Graduation.

The top eight: Jack Johnston, Fabian Claveria, Sun Jin, Tristan Beale, Lucy Wilson, Nicole Kapiniaris, Chigusa Arihara and Calvin Fong.
