Showcasing media artworks by international and Australian artists, Experimenta Speak to Me encourages us to consider what it means to be together at a time when technology affects many of our daily actions and the way we engage with the world around us.
RMIT Gallery Director Suzanne Davies said it was fitting Experimenta had chosen to launch its touring exhibition at RMIT Gallery, given the fact that RMIT was a leader in technology, design, global business and communication.
"Experimenta exhibitions and commissioned artworks confirm Australia's place at the forefront of technical and artistic innovation, and we are delighted to have this association with them," Ms Davies said.
Experimenta Director Jen Mizuik said that after a successful eight-year relationship, Experimenta's move from the Arts Centre to RMIT Gallery signalled a bold new chapter in the organisation's evolution.
Experimenta Speak to Me will be launched at RMIT Gallery and will run from 14 September to 17 November. The exhibition will then tour nationally over the following two years.
Ms Mizuik said: "The upcoming Biennial is a highly anticipated cultural event that will expose Australian audiences to the timely ideas and technologies around our capacity for connectedness, and the many new ways we communicate with each other.
"The commissioned artists represented in this exhibition will showcase the very best of Australian innovation and artistic endeavour, and include new works from Christopher Fulham, Jess MacNeil, Wade Marynowsky and Katie Turnbull.
"In addition, two further exciting commissioning partnerships are soon to be announced - one with ACMI and another with partner Federation Square, which feature both Australian and international artists."
Experimenta Curator Abigail Moncrieff said: "Experimenta Speak to Me is an invitation to consider what it means, at this time, to be together. The exhibition will also feature a range of education and public programs, including talks and workshops, for audiences of all ages."
