Business IT and Logistics Research Seminar - Impact and value of public libraries
Professor Anne Morris, Department of Information Science, Loughborough University, will explain the different techniques used to estimate value of one the community's great institutions - the library. She will also compare the research results of studies investigating cost-benefit analysis factors in relation to libraries in various countries.
Measuring the efficiency, impact and value of libraries is not new but it has become more important in recent years because of the continuing economic pressure on library budgets and the need for public organisations to be ever more accountable to stakeholders. Evidence of impact can be obtained by making use of the statistical data collected routinely by libraries and/or by using a variety of qualitative techniques.
Anne Morris is a Professor and, for many years, has been the Director of Research in the Department of Information Science at Loughborough University. In addition, she is the Senior Academic Adviser for Information and Library Sector of the Information and Computing Science Subject Centre (Higher Education Academy) and is on the editorial board of several journals.
Her main interests lie in the usability and evaluation of information systems, especially information retrieval aspects; and the economic value and impact of information services.
She is currently visiting professor with the RMIT School of Business IT and Logistics.
Speaker: Professor Anne Morris, Department of Information Science, Loughborough University, UK
