The RMIT School of Art advocates research in the arts through industry engagement and community-based projects.

Acting as a contact point between artists and industry is the RMIT Common Ground Network. This initiative develops transdisciplinary projects with industry partners in the context of contemporary urbanisation. Researchers involved in Common Ground Network projects include School of Art staff, professional artists, cultural industry partners and RMIT alumni.

The Common Ground Network strengthens existing industry engagement, supports long-term partnerships and builds new relationships.

The development of a strategic approach to industry engagement arose from the need for a more cohesive and tactical framework, which would provide an environment to allow researchers to forge stronger ongoing links with industry partners.
