Student profile – Ashwin Date

Program: Doctor of Philosophy (Mechanical Engineering)

I was initially attracted to study a PHD in Mechanical Engineering as I had a keen interest in the area of renewable energy and wanted to complete further studies.

I chose to study at RMIT as there is an active group working in the area of renewable energy. This has allowed me to do my research in the latest solar energy technology.

As a PhD student I have been exposed to a variety of study options including self-motivated research, academic teaching as well as hands-on practical work in the laboratory.

You need to be self motivated to keep your research on track, and I feel I’ve learned the skills at RMIT to do that.

I’m hoping to complete my PhD in the next two years and then continue with further research. My qualifications will definitely open the doors for me to achieve my dream job as a researcher or an academic.
