Maximum time limits for common RMIT awards guidelines and table

This table has been prepared using the following formula:

Maximum time Undergraduate Students

Full-time students = normal full time duration + 50% normal full time duration
Part-time students = normal part time duration + 50% normal part time duration

Maximum time Postgraduate Students

Full-time students = normal full time duration + 50% normal full time duration
Part-time students = twice normal part time duration

If the program in question does not match any of the awards in the following table, or has a normal full time or part time duration different to those listed, Maximum Time should be calculated using the above formula.

Note:

  • Leave of Absence: Periods of approved Leave of Absence are not counted when adding up time taken to complete a program.
  • Advanced Standing, Credit Transfer, RPL etc: Where a student receives credit towards an award normal full time or part time duration for that student is reduced by the amount of credit granted. For example; a student who receives one year of credit towards a three year degree has the normal duration reduced to 2 years full-time and 4 years part-time.
  • Mixed full-time and part-time study: Where a student mixes periods of full and part-time study the maximum time limit for that student can be calculated using a combination of both limits. For example, if a student in a 3 year undergraduate degree does one year full-time before changing to part-time for the remainder of the degree an appropriate maximum time limit is – (full-time 1year + 0.5 (50%)) + (part-time 4 years + 2 (50%)) = 7.5 years.
