Authority to award degrees
The degrees of PhD, Masters by Research, Professional Doctorate and PhD by Publication are awarded by the Council of RMIT to postgraduate candidates who have successfully completed an appropriate program of study as prescribed in the Regulations.
Authority to make and amend regulations
The Council of RMIT is empowered to make and amend Regulations for the conduct of matters pertaining to higher degrees by research, under the powers given to it by the RMIT Act.
Responsibility for the conduct of degrees
The Research Committee (RC) is formally responsible for the conduct of all matters pertaining to the degrees of PhD, Masters by Research and PhD by publication, and to the research component of the degree of Professional Doctorate, subject to the Regulations and general supervision of the Academic Board.
