Double-badged PhD policy- higher degrees by research

1.1. Agreement between RMIT and overseas institutions

A process exists to enable double-badged PhD agreements1 to be established between RMIT and overseas institutions. Such agreements make it possible for doctoral candidates to undertake their studies at both RMIT and an overseas institution, with supervision provided by academics from both institutions.

1.2. Award of the degree

A candidate successfully completing such a program would be awarded a joint doctoral degree by the two institutions.

1.3. Benefit of the degree

A double-badged PhD agreement is primarily a device for promoting research through existing collaboration. However, it can also be used as a means of establishing collaborative links to provide the best PhD candidates with international experience and access to the latest research in two countries and professional mobility at the start of their career.2

1 Such agreements do not apply to PhD by Publication.
