Telephony FAQs

General

Can a VoIP telephone be programmed with different ring tones for internal and external calls?

VoIP handsets can be programmed with different ring tones, however the same ring tone applies for internal and external calls. To choose a different ring tone on your handset select ‘Services’, then ‘Telephone Options’, then ‘Ring type…’ and make a selection.

If the computer network is unavailable, can I still use my VoIP telephone?

VoIP telephones operate through the computer network. If the network is unavailable the VoIP telephone will not work. Alternative analogue telephones are available in every building and will operate if the network is unavailable. Please check with your line manager for locations in your area.

What does it mean when the blue light on the telephone is flashing?

If the blue light on the top left of the telephone is flashing and the message ‘[FW] reading’ or ‘[FW] writing’ is displayed then the telephone is updating its software. Please ensure that you do not interrupt the process by picking up the handset or dialling as the information on the telephone may not be recoverable if interrupted. Once the software update is complete, the blue light will disappear and the phone can be used.
