How do I get an account on the RMIT voicemail service?
An RMIT voicemail account can be requested by submitting an authorised Telephony service form (DOC 88 KB).
How do I know when someone has sent me voicemail?
If you have a digital phone you will see a new voicemail message on the LCD display of your phone. If you have an analogue phone you will hear a broken dial tone when you pick-up your handset.
Your account can also be configured to send you an email notifying you when you receive a voicemail. To enable voicemail email notifications please contact the IT Service Desk.
After how many rings does the voicemail service activate?
Under the default settings, the voicemail service will activate on the first ring when the dialed extension is engaged, or on the fourth ring if the call is not answered.
Your account can be configured to ring 6 or 8 times before diverting to voicemail. To request the change please contact the IT Service Desk.
Can I leave a voicemail without dialing the extension?
Once logged into your voicemail account, press 75 to access the compose message menu. Follow the prompts to compose a message.You can deliver the composed message to a number of mailboxes.
Can I forward the message to another extension?

Can I transfer my voicemail account to another extension?
Voicemail accounts at RMIT are associated with the extension. If you change your extension you will need a new voicemail account set up for the new extension.

Can I access my voicemail externally, i.e. from a different handset or from home?
Yes, you can access voicemail externally by dialling Tel: +613 9925 0852 and following the prompts. You can also access your voicemail from any internal RMIT handset by dialling the extension 50852 and following the prompts. I had voicemail on my previous telephone, but I don’t have a voicemail greeting on my new telephone - does this need to be set up?
Your previous voicemail account (x51000) will have been discontinued when the new VoIP telephone was installed. The account is still registered, however your voicemail account needs to be set up again. This means voicemail greetings need to be re-recorded on the VoIP handset.

Am I required to have a voicemail account?
It is up to the individual user to decide whether to have a voicemail account, however it is common practice for RMIT staff to have one. For further information contact the IT Service Desk.
