In this 2-year computer science program you'll focus your studies on software. It's designed for IT graduates, software professionals and non-computing graduates.
You can study the Master of Information Technology, Master of Computing, or Master of Technology (Internet and Web Computing) with the added benefit of a further semester of study.

Features
Learning and teaching
RMIT offers a variety of learning and teaching approaches including lectures, seminars, studios, workshops, presentations, group discussions and syndicate work. These are primarily in English.
You will have access to the Learning Hub and other online and digital resources through the myRMIT student portal.
Ongoing assessment throughout the semester includes examinations, essays, reports, oral classes, presentations, group projects, research projects, laboratory projects and practical assignments.
Program structure
The Master consists of 192 credit points.
For the first 1.5 years full-time, the program structure follows any one of the following:
- Master of Computing
- Master of Information Technology
- Master of Technology (Internet and Web Computing).
Specialisations are available in:
- Advanced Databases
- Computer Security
- Intelligent Systems
- Networked and Distributed Systems
- Software Engineering
- Web-Based Computing.
You'll be able to pursue an industrial software engineering project through RMIT's Your Software. If you don't wish to do this you can study an extra 4 approved courses or undertake research methods and a minor thesis.

Industry connections
You can pursue a unique industrial software engineering project working through RMIT's Your Software.
Your Software allows you to work in teams on an industry project with an external company. Management and liaison between the company and students is carried out by a professional software project manager with more than 20 years' industry experience.
By participating in work-based learning you'll significantly improve your job prospects as companies sponsoring projects often employ graduates.

You must meet the University entry requirements for this type of program.
If you satisfy the following requirements you will be eligible for selection; however, there is no guarantee that you will be selected as demand for the program varies each intake.

You must:
- have successfully completed a Bachelor level degree in computer science or information technology, with a credit average (minimum 2.0 CGPA); or
- be a qualified IT professional with extensive relevant industry experience.

Fees
This program is full fee paying only. Postgraduate tuition fees vary according to each program and are adjusted annually.
Fee assistance
The following fee assistance is available for this program:
- FEE-HELP is an optional loan scheme that assists eligible full-fee paying students to pay all or part of their tuition fees.
Other fees
If you apply for an exemption at enrolment you may be required to pay a fee of $110 and take a challenge test. Contact the School of Computer Science and Information Technology for details.
In addition to tuition fees there is also the Student services and amenities fee (SSAF). You may be able to defer the fee through the SA-HELP loan scheme.
Some courses attract additional expenses.

You must enrol in the Master of Computer Science at least 1 semester before you're due to complete your current program.
Graduates who complete the minor thesis option as part of the Master of Computer Science (with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or more, and a positive minor thesis examiner's report), can apply for direct entry to a PhD with a possible scholarship.
