You'll study the theory and practice of Chinese herbal medicine, medicinal chemistry, botany, pharmacology and toxicology, and clinical practice as well as the interaction of herbs and drugs.
This program offers a new pathway for all primary health care practitioners and science graduates (clinical diagnosis is required) to qualify for Chinese herbal medicine practice.
Graduates meet the requirements set by the Chinese Medicine Registration Board of Victoria and equivalent accrediting bodies in other states.

Learning and teaching
RMIT offers a variety of learning and teaching approaches including lectures, seminars, studios, workshops, presentations, group discussions and syndicate work. These are primarily in English.
You will have access to the Learning Hub and other online and digital resources through the myRMIT student portal.
Ongoing assessment throughout the semester includes examinations, essays, reports, oral classes, presentations, group projects, research projects, laboratory projects and practical assignments.

The Master of Applied Science (Chinese Herbal Medicine) consists of 144 credit points.

Professional recognition and accreditation
This program is approved by the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia.
As a graduate you'll be accepted by the Board, subject to continued accreditation, and can begin practising in Victoria.
The program is also recognised by the Australian Natural Therapists Association (ANTA) and the Federation of Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture Societies of Australia Inc. (FCMA).

Program entry requirements
You must hold an appropriate bachelor degree in the health care profession or medical sciences (including studies in bioscience, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, immunology and pathology).
You must be competent in physical examination and diagnosis to ensure safe practice when employing acupuncture or Chinese herbal medicine.
If you require development in this area, you can undertake bridging courses in diagnosis and differential diagnosis in western medicine before or during your first year.
