In 2009, Ecology Australia Pty. Ltd. was commissioned to prepare a Wetland Management Plan for the artificial waterbody on the RMIT Bundoora west campus.
The production of this report is a necessary component in applying for a ‘Green Star Rating’, which is sought for the construction of the Bundoora West Lecture Theatre, which is situated near the wetland. The Wetland Management Plan has been designed to protect and enhance wetland values over a five year period.

Project overview
The Bundoora West Campus has a new lecture theatre. The main auditorium has a capacity for 360 people. The lecture theatre is also available for presentations and use by the community.
The lecture theatre includes several flexible work areas for study and an informal learning area that can accommodate 200 people. A surrounding piazza provides active learning space for students.
The lecture theatre has been equipped with several technological features. An audio visual system will improve interactive learning between staff and students and has the ability to record lectures. A video link from the lecture theatre allows students in the informal learning area to tune into lectures in progress.
The building also has several sustainable features. There are energy efficient water fixtures and fittings, and a rainwater collection from the roof of the building to be used for toilet flushing and irrigation.
Other sustainable design features include energy efficient lighting and low VOC (Volatile
Organic Chemicals) flooring, furnishing and paints. There is also a high indoor environment quality with the provision of high levels of daylight. The building’s energy and water usage data will also be viewable on a display screen within the building.
The landscaping around the lecture theatre provides north and south facing courtyards with gardens and a covered veranda.
